In the bottom of the 5th, Lansing is winning 5-3.
UPDATE: In the top of the 9th, Lansing is winning 6-3. Youngstown is at its final 3 outs, but started off the inning with a single and a hit batsman. Lansing had a meeting on the mound and replaced their starter Jacob Smith (# 11) with Andrew Rademacher (# 32).
UPDATE #2: With the two guys on base, Youngstown bunted to get them over. Then, they hit a fly out of centerfield which was followed by a ground out to second.
FINAL SCORE: Lansing 6 , Youngstown 3. In the game, Lansing at 3 errors, while Youngstown had 6. Youngstown is now eliminated.

A "sloppy game" with 9 errors. Some strong pitching and solid defense at the end of the game kept Youngstown from rallying. Lansing has not won 3 games in the tournament since 1990's Goad Realty team, and having to play the second game of their double-header against New Orleans (on a hot day, no less), things seems stacked against. Winner of New Orleans / Lansing game will play the winner of the Toledo / Zanesville game tomorrow. Brian_V

In the top of the 6th, Zanesville tied the game at 3.
They have had 10 hits, while Toledo has had 4. Toledo had a chance to get a guy out at third on a suicide squeeze attempt, but there was no throw. The next batter for Zanesville hit one to centerfield, scoring 2 runs and tying the game.
UPDATE: In the top of the 8th, Toledo now leads 5-3.
They scored a guy from 1st with a double into the notch in centerfield. Then, Zanesville's shortstop tried to field the ball barehanded, but missed which resulting in another run to score.

Zanesville outhits Toledo 11-8, but Toledo comes up with the 5-3 win. Zanesville is now eliminated. Also, the 4:00 PM exhibition vintage baseball game is being played by the Somerset Frosty Sons of Thunder (what kind of a name is that?) vs. the Pittsburgh Franklins. They will obviously be playing by the old rules and also with no gloves. These 2 teams are also going to be in Murrysville for Community Days to play a game. In case anyone is interested, the website to check out these teams and the others is www.vbba.org

Vintage Game was very neat. No gloves, no walks (I think), pitching was slow-pitch, 2nd baseman stayed at the base, and if you caught the ball on the first bounce it counts as an out. It wasn't entirely period (Nike spikes?) but enough to make it special. Runners even had to ring a cowbell to signify when they scored. As stated, final score was: Somerset Frosty Sons of Thunder - 11 Pittsburgh Franklins - 6 The two teams play again this Saturday in Murrysville at 3 PM. www.murrysville.com/CommunityDay2009.htmlSome pics:

What a game at the Point tonight. Shame on all of you who left early.
Pitching is always key and Brooklyn had the edge through 8 innings, keeping Delweld to only 3 hits. A close 2-0 game became a big lead at 5-0 after some timely hitting and fielding blunders.
But the locals rallied in the top of the ninth and the starting pitcher for Brooklyn let the pressure get to him, giving us some runs on pass-balls and wild pitches. A sharply hit ball to the third baseman allowed the tying run to score with 2 outs. Fans were going nuts. What a game.
But alas, the relief pitcher found his stride after the ninth and shut down the Delweld hitting. Brooklyn got a couple on base to start the 12th inning, moved them up and brought them home with a sharply hit ball past the first baseman. <tear>
So, tomorrow's schedule looks like this:
11:00AM - New Orleans vs Toledo (elimination) 3:00PM - New Brunswick vs Brooklyn (undefeateds) 7:30PM - Delweld vs Martella's (elimination)
On the plus side, we're guarenteed a Johnstown entry in the final 4. On the down sides, we're going to lose one Johnstown entry and the winner will have to play either New Brunswick or Brooklyn (again).
Also, I'm worried about whether we'll even get a crowd for this. Will locals want to cheer against themselves? I can see a lot of people not coming thinking "I don't want to see two Johnstown teams play" and "we'll just go on Saturday"
At least we should get a good crowd Saturday.
I think a game like this one is a good reason not to have 2 Johnstown entries. Totally sucks the fun out of the game.
