JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed winger Brett Liscomb for the 2009-10 season.
“Brett is a guy that Coach Herbers recruited before his departure. Ian liked that he could play wing or center, and was impressed with his skating ability and on-ice intelligence. Brett had a solid junior career, with four full seasons in the OHL and produced a point per game last season at St. Francis Xavier University. Our expectations are that he will solidify our lineup and push the top forwards as he competes for a spot on our top units,” said Chiefs vice president and general manager Bill Bredin.
A rookie, Liscomb comes to Johnstown after an extensive, and productive, amateur career. His four seasons in the OHL were split between the Windsor Spitfires and the Ottawa 67’s, and he also logged two campaigns with St. Francis Xavier University (Atlantic University Sport). Liscomb finished third on the X-Men in scoring last season with 28 points (12G, 16A) in 28 games. He was a point-per-game player over his X-Men career thanks to 14 points (6G, 8A) in 14 games during the 2007-08 season.
While not quite a point-per-game player in the OHL, Liscomb had a good amount of success offensively with Windsor and Ottawa. Each season his production increased and his career culminated with a 55 point effort (24G, 31A) in 2006-07 for Ottawa. That total placed him third on the 67’s behind San Jose draft picks Jamie McGinn (#36 overall in 2006) and Logan Couture (#9 overall in 2007). Liscomb also showed some scrappiness that season with 95 penalty minutes.
The 5-9, 190-pound native of Long Sault, Ontario did get a taste of professional hockey with the Dayton Bombers in 2007. In his debut, and only game, on October 20 he notched one assist in a 5-4 loss to Cincinnati at the Nutter Center.
Liscomb is the 14th player to join the Chiefs for the upcoming season. His fellow forwards are: Ryan Menei, Erik Felde, Sean Berkstresser, Matt Robinson, Torren Delforte, and Jozef Sladok. On the defensive end the Chiefs have Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, Kyle Bushee, David Schulz, Brent Patry, Jim Jorgensen and goalie Kris Mayotte under contract.
