JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed defenseman Brent Patry for the 2009-10 season.
“The Chiefs are excited to have Brent on board. He is a skilled defenseman who will add some offensive punch to our back end. We also felt that he will be a great compliment to our returning veteran core of defensemen,” said Vice President and General Manager Bill Bredin.
Patry comes to Johnstown after spending the 2008-09 season with Eindhoven Kemphanen in Holland. There he had a sensational rookie season that saw him pile up 52 points (14G, 38A) in just 39 games. That point total was second best on the team and tops among defensemen. Averaging nearly an assist per game, Patry led Eindhoven in that category last season.
A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Patry played his college hockey for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). For three seasons (2005-2008) he was a steady point producer on the blueline and helped the Tigers capture the Atlantic Hockey conference championship for the 2006-07 season. That was Patry’s best season statistically with 28 points (9G, 19A). The season prior, the 6-1, 205-pound rearguard led Tiger defensemen with 12 points (4G, 8A).
“Brent was a tremendous leader and a very good offensive defenseman for us. He likes to join the rush and is good along the offensive blue line. He is also a strong player physically,” said Tigers head coach Wayne Wilson.
Patry becomes the 10th Chief under contract for 2009-10. He joins Torren Delforte, Jozef Sladok, Erik Felde, Matt Robinson, Sean Berkstresser, Ryan Menei, Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, and Kyle Bushee.
