No, this wasn't hit to any player. It was bunted straight down (I guess) and they were saying that since he bunted into the box (I think?), then he should be out. I don't recall, it might have been the 3rd strike, which would make sense, but I don't quite remember. I'm just going to assume that's what it was Brian_V

Knowitall, what situation are you referring to specifically with Mazey and Chernisky? I thought the story was that Chernisky was in his first year on Mazey's staff for the Knickerbockers and Mazey sent him out in a tourney game and told him to "go get thrown out" and Chernisky couldn't do it. He was too nice a kid. He argued for about five minutes but nothing. That could have been what happened. It was between innings of a tournament game. Chernisky went out an argued with the first base umpire for unknown reasons. He returned to the bench area after not getting ejected. It was the most bizarre incident I can recall. If Mazey sent him out to do that then Mazey is an even bigger jerk than I thought he was.

Part of the batters box is in fair territory. A batter is automatically out on routine catchable infield fly with runners on 1st and 2nd or 1st, 2nd,and 3rd with less than 2 outs. The runners can advance at their own risk. This is the infield fly rule. The reason for this rule is the fielder could let the fly ball drop and turn a double or triple play.

To me there's a difference between a coach going out and trying to get tossed, which is a tried a true part of baseball etiquette, and a coach throwing a bucket of balls on the field in an amateur tourney.

First I hold the host team to a high standard.
Second, argue the close play when it happens don't wait until between innings and then go out and make an asz of yourself.
